Abstract
Stunting a consequence of chronic malnutrition during the first 1,000 days of life is closely linked to the environmental sanitation conditions of a child's home. A descriptive study involving 24 stunted toddlers in the service area of the Sawah Lebar Community Health Center (Puskesmas), Bengkulu City, conducted between May and June 2026, evaluated housing components, sanitation facilities, and resident behaviors regarding environmental health. The results indicated that physical building elements such as walls, floors, and ceilings as well as basic facilities like clean water, latrines, and wastewater management, met health standards in all (100%) of the respondents' homes. Most homes also met the criteria for windows and household waste management. However, significant issues were identified regarding ventilation and lighting; none of the homes met ventilation standards, and the majority (92%) failed to meet lighting standards. Although resident behavior regarding environmental cleanliness and waste management was excellent, improving indoor air circulation and natural light intensity is crucial for supporting the future health and growth of these toddlers.
