Abstract

Air pollution become major problem for cities in Indonesia, including Bengkulu. The growing number of vehicles has increased rapidly in Bengkulu. This causes air pollution which resulted in around 7 million death people worldwide which causes cardiovascular disease or diseases caused by motor vehicle exhaust emissions. The purpose of this study to analyze the gas concentration of SO2 and NO2. This research was descriptive study. It was conducted at the area of the intersection of Pagar Dewa, Kota Bengkulu with four sampling locations, namely Jalan Depati Payung Negara, Jalan RE. Martadinata, Adam Malik, and Raden Patah. This research conducted at 10.00-15.00 WIB, March-May 2019 through two stages, namely the stage of taking test samples and the stage of examining test samples. The examination stage of the test sample was carried out at the HIPERKES and K3 Laboratory of Bengkulu Province. The result showed the quality of SO2 gas at the crossroads of Pagar Dewa Kota Bengkulu 100% qualified, whereas NO2 gas quality 75% qualified and 25% did not qualify the quality standard according to Regulation No. 41 of 1999 on Air Pollution Control. It is recommended for road users and local communities in order to reduce sources of air pollution.
